Powerful Quake Hits Russia’s Kamchatka, Triggers Tsunami across Pacific
強震襲俄國堪察加半島 引發海嘯警報
An 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on the morning of July 30 local time, triggering a tsunami that flooded parts of the port town of Severo-Kurilsk, home to about 2,000 residents. Russian emergency officials confirmed evacuations after waves up to four meters were recorded in some areas.
俄羅斯堪察加半島外海於當地時間七月三十日上午發生規模8.8強震，引發了海嘯，淹沒人口約兩千人的港口小鎮北庫里爾斯克部分地區。俄國緊急情況部官員證實，部分地區觀測到高達四公尺的海浪，居民已緊急撤離。
The quake, the strongest in Kamchatka since 1952, caused power outages and phone service disruptions in the regional capital, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Local reports described residents fleeing without shoes or coats.
這起地震是堪察加地區自1952年以來最強的一次，造成區域首府彼得羅巴甫洛夫斯克-堪察加市停電，且電話服務也中斷。當地報導表示居民匆忙逃離，甚至來不及穿鞋或外套。
The tsunami warning extended across the Pacific, with Japan ordering the evacuation of over 1.9 million people and the American state of Hawaii issuing alerts. Waves of about 1.3 meters reached Japan’s Iwate Prefecture. This was the most powerful global earthquake since the 2011 9.0-magnitude event in northeastern Japan, making it the sixth strongest ever recorded.
海嘯警報範圍擴及整個太平洋，日本下令一百九十多萬人撤離，美國夏威夷州也發布警戒。日本岩手縣觀測到約1.3公尺高的海浪。這起地震是自2011年日本東北外海規模9.0強震以來全球最強的一次，成為史上第六強震。
